Who is Southern U?
Southern U was an idea developed by Jerremy Ferguson, Taylor McMurtrey and Matt Brock, that was intended to bring landowners, leaseholders and wildlife managers together through education, information and collaboration. Most land in the South is held in private ownership. As professionals in the land management and wildlife habitat business, we believe one of the best ways to impact wildlife and their habitats is by bringing proven management practices to the very ones who can have the largest impact. Wildlife populations are dependent on their habitat needs being met to thrive. Southern U strives to provide the best science-based and field-proven information to those who can find it most useful, the southeastern landowner.
Jerremy and Matt both hold Bachelor of Science degrees in Wildlife Science. Jerremy attended Auburn University and graduated in 2005. Matt attended Mississippi State University and graduated in 2007. Both have extensive experience in both the private sector and government positions with the Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries and Parks, as well as the Alabama Department of Wildlife and Freshwater Fisheries. Jerremy is currently the owner of Wildlife Consulting Services, as well as a Broker and Land Specialist for Tutt Land Company. Matt is the owner of Habitat 1st Properties and a Land Specialist for Tutt Land Company. They both have pursued careers that are their passion, which is managing for and pursuing large game and upland game animals.
Taylor McMurtrey is the brain behind anything and everything related to how you know who we are. He has a Bachelor of Science in Psychology from Jackson State University, currently owning Broadside Marketing and Branding. Taylor works tirelessly to film and edit materials for viewing. He designs/creates apparel and gear for several outdoor and hunting related brands.
Collectively, as a team of editors and biologists, the desire of Southern U is to relate to the southern landowner in a way they find useful and helpful regarding landowner objectives.
